The high temperatures and humidity tell me we are well into the summer season, ruled by Pitta Dosha. Fire and water comprise Pitta, which metabolizes and digests food, experiences, and emotions. Plugin into and examine the actions of high Pitta Dosha on your physical and energetic health.
What is going on with you? I have been looking into the Chakra system this summer and examined how high Pitta Dosha distresses chakra health. Pay attention and balance heat in our diet and activities to stay ahead of summer heat.
For a person with a fiery constitution at this time of year, if you don’t actively keep things chill, the heat of Pitta will build and dry you out. Physically, too much dryness sets you up for fall issues. In our energy system, excess Pitta manifests in several of the chakras to drive imbalanced thoughts and behaviors. Ongoing heated thoughts and actions can create a feedback look that will eventually hurt chakra and physical health.
Burnout is common in Pitta Dosha when it gets too high, and the fire dominates. Pitta in balance, brings so much to the party, organization, focus, and accomplishment. Pitta loves control, clarity, and certainty. Between the pandemic and the protests this summer, these things are in short supply.
Doshas are forces that act on both the physical, energetic bodies and centers. Pitta, the power of transformation, works all over the body at the micro level. Every cell has a combination of Kapha, Pitta, and Vata. Pitta, on the macro level, resides in the small intestine. Pitta Dosha impacts specific organs and energy centers when too hot or too high.
Chakra And Dosha Both Go Out Of Balance
Chakras go out of balance from a variety of life choices each day. Sometimes we feel when Dosha or Chakra go out of balance; other times, not. Please pay attention to your mind and body. Take corrective actions to address habitual behaviors aggravating Pitta, or the imbalance and symptoms will grow.
Follow a Pitta-balancing diet, and avoid hot spicy foods to turn down the flames. Don’t exercise during pitta time of day in the summer sun. Aim for a B on schedules and goals, quit being self-critical in your self-talk, and add a dash of ease into your schedule.
There are five sub-Doshas of Pitta (focused areas where Pitta acts): Sadhaka (in the mind and heart), Alochaka (in the eyes), Pachaka (in the stomach), Ranjaka (in the liver) and Bhrajaka(in the skin) Pitta. Three of these sub-Doshas of Pitta (arms of Pitta in the body) in excess influence Chakras directly.
The Chakra Most Impacted By Pitta Dosha
Manipura Chakra (Solar Plexus) And Rajanka Pitta In The Digestion
Elevated Pitta, often provokes sharp criticism of self and others. The Manipura Chakra energy center (3rd from the bottom) is focused on our sense of worthiness and power. This chakra sits at the diaphragm proximal to the liver.
Rajanka hangs out in the liver, physically it metabolizes waste and packages it for removal. Energetically it holds undigested anger of criticism and built-up unprocessed toxic energy. If we are angry with ourselves and critical on an ongoing basis, heat builds. Self-criticism erodes our sense of self-worth and blocks the flow of energy in the Manipura center. Cooling bitters greens, castor oil packs, and positive self-affirming mantra will all help relieve the solar plexus chakra.
Anahata Heart Chakra & Sadhaka Pitta In The Mind And Heart
Sadhaka works in the mind and heart. Anahata(4th from the bottom) is the energy center of the heart. Pitta’s hot, sharp qualities get activated in our thoughts and feelings when Pitta Dosha goes out of balance. The brain begins to shut out the desires of the heart. The energetic heart gets jammed up.
A blocked Anahata chakra can harden our hearts, closing off our ability to love and be loved. Communication between the mind and spirit is essential for health. Cooling pranayama and loving-kindness meditation will reopen the heart to the flowing energy of love.
3rd Eye Anja Chakra & Alochaka Pitta In The Eyes
Alochaka acts in our eyes and vision. The Anja chakra (6th from the bottom) is a center for awareness and spiritual perception. If the fire in the eyes burns too bright, it overshadows the third eye. The insight from our Anja Chakra, can be obscured by overuse and misuse of our eyes.
