A Living Breathing Operating System

Ayurveda means wisdom of life. It is an ancient health care system that is still employed today. The power of Ayurveda can be brought to bear to evolve your wellness, clear space for your dharma your purpose, or rebuild health. Herbs, spice, foods and daily routines are fundamental tools to clarify awareness, build health and support recovery.

Ayurveda teaches us to cherish our innate-nature – “to love and honor who we are”, not as what people think or tell us, “who we should be.

- Prana Gogia

When I talk about Ayurveda, people usually say Ayur what? Then they start to ask questions. Two common questions I get on Ayurveda are simple to answer.

Is Ayurveda a Religion?

No, it is a living health science that suggests you bring connection to spirit into your life.  You can be Catholic, or Buddhist or anything you want, engage with and benefit from this science.

Ayurveda recommends meditation to connect to your own spirit. How does Ayurveda work with Western Medicine?

Ayurveda plays well with others including western medicine. What I mean by that is that Ayurvedic principles can be used to support Western medicine and other medical systems. It fills in some of the gaps on the road to your most complete recovery.

Ayurveda teaches responsibility, acceptance, love and care of self.  I don’t know any other system that approaches health in such a comprehensive way. Ayurveda’s definition of health is lovely and broad and comes from an ancient Sanskrit text.  Here is my understanding of the classic translation.

A Big Definition

Health is a state of being that covers mind body and spirit.  The dosha the forces that act to shape our lives are in the beautiful balance that reflects your unique nature.  Physical and mental diigestion is strong and steady.  Tissues are healthy, Senses and mind clear and content.  Your soul and spirit shine through your life and promote growth.

This definition sets a really high expectation that has the potential to be fabulous and freeing.  This is so different  than the western lack of injury or disease. I don’t know many people in modern society who even understand this as a possibility, but it is a worthy  powerful shift. Do you want to embrace to a paradigm of wellness?  Ayurveda might just be for you.
